About our organization
Bayit Community Land Trust is a Maryland 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2019 in Burtonsville, MD. We are developing an AHLT (Affordable Health and Labor Trust) model — an integrated ecosystem that brings together workforce navigation, community health, and transportation mobility as one coordinated system for Maryland families.
AHLT stands for Affordable Health and Labor Trust. It is the integrated service model Bayit CLT is developing — one that addresses workforce, health, and transportation barriers together rather than in isolation. The model is approved by the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT).
Our primary office is in Silver Spring, MD (20910). We serve residents across all 18 Maryland counties through a network of community partners, navigators, and mobile outreach.
No. Bayit CLT is an independent 501(c)(3) public charity. We are not a government agency, though we work alongside government programs and refer participants to public benefits when appropriate.
Who can apply
Our programs are designed for low- to moderate-income Maryland residents who face barriers in workforce participation, health access, or transportation. Specific eligibility criteria vary by program — the best way to find out if you qualify is to submit an application or contact us directly.
Yes. Our programs are currently available to residents of Maryland. We serve all 18 counties, with particular focus on Montgomery County and the greater Silver Spring area.
Most of our programs are targeted toward low- to moderate-income households. Income thresholds vary by program and are based on federal and state guidelines. If you are unsure whether you qualify, apply anyway — our navigators will help determine the right fit.
Yes. Many participants receive support across multiple programs simultaneously — for example, workforce navigation alongside community health worker support. Our integrated model is designed for this. When you apply, tell us about all the areas where you need support.
Our services
Workforce Navigation provides one-on-one coaching with a trained navigator who helps you identify career goals, connect with job opportunities, access skills training and certification programs, and navigate benefits and financial counseling. Sessions are available in person and remotely.
Bayit-trained Community Health Workers (CHWs) meet residents where they are — in homes, clinics, and community spaces. They help you navigate health insurance, connect with medical and mental health providers, manage chronic conditions, and access social services. CHWs are community members themselves, trained to bridge the gap between residents and the healthcare system.
In partnership with Vehicles for Change, we help qualifying low-income Maryland workers access reliable transportation. This includes donated vehicle access, auto repair assistance, and driver education support. Transportation is often the barrier between a resident and stable employment — this program addresses that directly.
Yes. All Bayit CLT direct services — workforce navigation, community health worker support, and transportation assistance — are provided at no cost to participants. We are funded through grants, donations, and community partnerships.
How to get started
You can apply online through our Apply page, which walks you through each program with a short intake form. You can also contact us by phone or email and a team member will help you get started.
A Bayit CLT navigator will review your application and contact you within 5–7 business days to schedule an intake conversation. During that conversation, we will learn more about your situation, confirm eligibility, and connect you with the right services.
Document requirements vary by program. For most programs, you will need proof of Maryland residency and income documentation. Your navigator will let you know exactly what is needed after your initial intake conversation — do not let uncertainty about documents stop you from applying.
Yes. All application and participant information is kept strictly confidential in accordance with our privacy policy and applicable law. We do not share your information with third parties without your consent, except as required by law or to connect you with a partner service you have agreed to receive.
