Participation standards

Community Guidelines

Bayit CLT programs are built on mutual respect, shared accountability, and a commitment to the wellbeing of every participant. These guidelines apply to all residents, volunteers, partners, and staff who engage with our services.

Why these guidelines exist

Our programs bring together people from across Maryland — different backgrounds, different needs, different journeys. These guidelines create the conditions for everyone to participate safely and with dignity. They are not punitive rules; they are the shared agreements that make community possible.

Core standard

Respect and dignity

Every person who walks through our doors — or connects with us online — deserves to be treated with respect. We do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or demeaning language of any kind. This includes language or behavior targeting race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or socioeconomic status.

  • Speak to others as you would want to be spoken to
  • Respect differences in background, language, and lived experience
  • Do not interrupt, talk over, or dismiss others in group settings
  • Use preferred names and pronouns when asked

Privacy

Confidentiality and privacy

Many participants share sensitive personal information as part of receiving services. That information belongs to them. What is shared in a Bayit CLT program stays within that program.

  • Do not share another participant's personal information outside the program
  • Do not photograph or record other participants without explicit consent
  • Staff and volunteers are bound by confidentiality agreements
  • If you have a concern about how your information is handled, contact us directly

Physical and emotional safety

Safe spaces

Bayit CLT spaces — physical and virtual — must be safe for everyone. Threatening behavior, physical aggression, or any conduct that makes others feel unsafe will result in immediate removal from the program.

  • No threats, intimidation, or physical aggression
  • No weapons on Bayit CLT premises or at partner sites
  • Report safety concerns to staff immediately
  • Emotional safety matters too — abusive language is not acceptable

Program integrity

Honesty and accountability

Our programs depend on accurate information to connect people with the right resources. Providing false information to obtain services, misrepresenting eligibility, or interfering with another participant's access to services undermines the community we are building together.

  • Provide accurate information when applying for or receiving services
  • Do not misrepresent eligibility or circumstances
  • Honor commitments made to staff, navigators, and partners
  • If your situation changes, let your navigator know

Your voice

Feedback and grievances

We want to hear from you — including when something isn't working. Bayit CLT has a formal grievance process for participants who believe these guidelines have been violated or who have concerns about how they were treated.

  • Submit feedback or concerns through our contact form or by calling our office
  • Grievances are reviewed within 10 business days
  • Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern is strictly prohibited
  • Anonymous feedback is accepted and taken seriously
